As the sun sets and Kyoto’s temples close, the city awakens with a vibrant food scene. From cosy eateries to hidden bars, there’s something for every taste. Most sites are just a 15–20 minute walk from the station, making it an accessible and delightful day trip.

Kurama to Kibune Hike

The Kurama to Kibune self guided day hike offers a chance to explore beautiful shrines and nature in the Kitayama mountains, north of Kyoto. This trail features stunning views, towering cedar forests and cultural landmarks like Kurama-dera Temple and Yuju Jinja Shrine. The hike spans 4–5km and takes 2-3 hours, mostly on well-marked paths, though there are some uneven dirt paths and lots of steps. The hike can be done in either direction – if starting in Kurama you can reward yourself afterwards with a meal in one of Kibune’s great restaurants or to soak in one of Kyoto’s best hot springs after hiking, Kurama Onsen, commence in Kibune.

How do I book a Japan city break?

Talk to your Japan Specialist when you book your RAW Travel Japan walk. Your consultant can tailor a city package for you that meets your budget and interests.

What's the minimum number of nights I need to book?

Your city package must include 4 consecutive nights hotel accommodation. However you can mix and match which cities you stay in over the 4 nights.

Can I book a Japan City Break without booking a RAW Japan Walk?

A Japan city break can only be booked in conjunction with your RAW Travel Japan walk. City breaks are not bookable on their own.

Can I just book some activities, I have my own accommodation booked?

No, you must book any activities/tours with a minimum of 4 nights consecutive accommodation.

Can I just book accommodation, as I’m not sure yet what tours/activities I want to do yet?

Yes, we can take bookings of accommodation only however you must book consecutive nights hotel accommodation. However you can mix and match which cities you stay in over the 4 nights.

Do I have to pay an additional deposit to book a Japan City Break?

Yes, an additional $250 per person deposit is required to book a Japan City Tour.
