HELPING YOU PREPARE
Whether you are preparing for your first long-distance walk or are a seasoned walker, we’ll support you all the way! We’ve got training guides, expert tips, free events and more to help you choose a trip that’s right for you and complete your walking adventure with a smile and energy left over. Long-distance walking isn’t something you should attempt without preparation. For comfort and success, you need to build strength and stamina, buy the correct hiking gear, learn about proper nutrition and hydration, and understand the required fitness levels and terrain you’ll be walking on.
All our multi-day walks require a suitable level of physical preparation. Walking for many hours over successive days carrying a daypack is likely to be very different from your current walking schedule. We recommend you undertake a training program for at least 3 months leading up to your departure.

Walk information sites
If you’re thinking about taking on the challenge of an iconic walk, check out our dedicated websites for more information. We can put more depth of information on these for individual walks than we can on our main site. If you want to dig deeper and find out more check these out – guidebook recommendations, picture galleries, videos, maps, preparation resources and links to relevant sites and services.
FREE TRAVEL INFORMATION NIGHTS
Twice a year we travel around Australia and New Zealand to talk about a selection of our trips in major capital cities and regional centres. If you have ever wanted to experience an iconic walk with RAW Travel then you will want to attend one of these events. (We hope to return to these in 2023.)
We guarantee a great night where you’ll be inspired by trip insights, videos and stunning images from our Destination Experts.
'WALK & TALK' DAYS
We love to walk and we love to meet like-minded people and talk! On our ‘Walk and Talk’ days, you’ll meet other long-distance walkers and get to ask our Destination Experts lots of questions about your desired destination, pre-departure preparation and walking gear. The pace is generally relaxed so there is plenty of time to chat and ask us anything.
We have been running these training days for many years but our current staffing shortages have meant we have to postpone for now. But we look forward to getting back to them again!
