If you are used to riding a conventional bike, e-bikes are an excellent way to cycle long distances through stunning landscapes, without the same level of exertion while enjoying all the same memorable cultural and foodie experiences. Slovenia is very cycle-friendly. Each morning you simply slot your recharged batteries back into your bike and pedal off!

Daily Details
Welcome to Slovenia! Today you make your way to Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital city. Arrive early to explore the area. This small city hosts an array of vibrant cafes, squares, bars and shops and is best explored on foot or by bike. Perched high above the city is Ljubljana Castle, the city’s main attraction, perfect for delving into Slovenian history and admiring the superb views over the city below.
On your first evening you will meet our local representative for a welcome drink and briefing. You’ll hear more about your itinerary, what to expect along the way and you’ll also have the opportunity to ask any last-minute questions. Afterwards, feel free to head out to discover the culinary delights of Ljubljana.
Start your hike in Radovljica, one of the most beautifully preserved medieval towns in Slovenia. The pleasant trails leads you toward famous Lake Bled, a picturesque journey through rolling hills, forests, and countryside. As you approach Bled, the iconic island church and the clifftop castle will slowly come into view. Upon arrival at the lake you can take a hike up to one of the panoramic summits such as Mala Osojnica or Ojstrica, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the lake, island, and surrounding mountains. Afterward, relax by the lake or enjoy a traditional Bled cream cake at a local café while soaking in the beauty of this alpine gem.
500m ascent, 500m descent

Today you will start your hike from the ski town of Kranjska Gora. Enter the Triglav National Park and hike towards the central Julian Alps. The beautiful trails offer amazing views. You will be surrounded by some of the highest Slovenian peaks and their impressive limestone walls as you approach the famous Vrsic pass. Choose a spot to stop and have lunch and take in the scenery, you may even pass a Mountain Hut for a coffee break. Walk through beautiful beech, spruce and larch forests until you reach a cosy mountain hut where you will spend the night and have. a chance to meet other hikers.
900m ascent

Start your day with a lovely hike to Slemenova Spica to enjoy one of the best views in the Julian Alps. Later in the day you will descend to the stunningly beautiful Soca valley. There is quite a bit of steep downhill walking and some narrow trails, however we can supply an alternative route if you wish to avoid some of the downhill. Once you reach the source of the Soca river, your path will follow the valley until you find your lovely accommodation for tonight – a beautiful alpine hotel on a stunning location, where you will have time to sit and relax with a cool drink.
600m ascent, 1400m descent

Follow the beautiful trails by the Soca River – one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. You’ll cross several hanging bridges. Along the way you can relax and dip your feet into the cold water or, if you are brave enough, take a swim in one of the turquoise pools. After about 4 hours of walking you will reach a campsite where your e-bike will be waiting for you – get set to embark on your two wheel adventure. Today you will e-bike mostly on side gravel roads along with some sections along the regional asphalt road – take your time to get acquainted with your e-bike and enjoy your surrounds. The road follows the valley downhill, but you still need to overcome a couple of steep uphills. In late afternoon you’ll reach Bovec, the Slovenian outdoor sports capital.
You will keep your e-bikes until the end of your trip.

Today you will experience an amazing variety of landscapes in just one day. After breakfast, check-out from your hotel and take a transfer to a mountain ridge above the Soca Valley, from where you will enjoy amazing alpine views (your e-bikes will be transferred with you). You can visit an interesting WWI outdoor museum and get to know why Ernest Hemingway based his novel A Farewell to Arms in this region. Once you have finished at the museum hop back on your bike and take the side roads along the ridge between Slovenia and Italy towards Goriska Brda – the land of rolling wine hills, also known as ‘Slovenia’s Tuscany’. Enjoy a nice loop across the wine hills, stopping at your leisure at any of the local winemakers to taste some of their superb wines. Next you’ll arrive in the quaint town of Šmartno, which is full of history and offers treats for foodies and wine lovers. Climb Gonjace’s tower for a bird’s eye view of the village and make your way to your accommodation for the night.
400m–900m ascent

Today you will leave the wine hills behind and enter the interesting border town of (Nova) Gorizia where you can learn about the consequences of the border change after WWII. Leave this urban area and then bike along Vipava valley before tackling an ascent to the Karst plateau. Along the way, we recommend you take time to stop and sample local some of the seasonal delicacies on offer, including some of the region’s finest cheeses. Todays journey will conclude at a charming countryside hotel, nestled amidst scenic landscapes, where you’ll relax and unwind during a delightful two-night stay. The picturesque town of Stanjel is only a short e-bike away with it’s restored Castle a must see for visitors where you can have a coffee, glass of wine or delicious meal in the famous castle courtyard.

Today you can choose to enjoy the easy-going pace of the Karst Plateau. Take a wonderful loop ride from your hotel through the stunning villages, meeting locals along the way. The ride is pretty short (especially on an e-bike), so you may like to extend the ride with the suggested optional extensions. On your journey today you will be presented with a range of choices that allow you to immerse yourself in the local culture; such as visiting a stonemason to learn about this longstanding tradition and try to carve a stone on your own; or visit some of local winemakers and see if they have the time to show you around; get a guide to explore the secrets of the beautiful village of Stanjel; and visit a family run prosciutteria. This will offer you an authentic insight into the daily lives and culture of the locals in Slovenia.

Today begins with a transfer to the Skocjan Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its vast underground chambers and stunning river-carved landscapes. This natural wonder offers a captivating blend of adventure and history. As you explore the dramatic stalactites, waterfalls, and deep chasms, you’ll be mesmerised by the caves’ unique geology and fascinating ecosystem.
Once you have finished your tour at the caves you will have a 30 minute transfer to the small seaside town of Izola. From Izola you will hike across the lovely hills as you finally approach the coast! Walk through the interesting Strunjan Nature Reserve and go for a well-deserved swim in the Adriatic Sea. Finish your day in a lovely coastal town of Piran, situated on a narrow peninsula jutting out to sea and backed by coastal hills. Despite being a popular tourist attraction, the town still oozes an air of cosiness and relaxation. As you navigate your way through the narrow arches of the city streets you’ll find lots of cute spots and laid back cafes. We recommend you treat yourself to a delicious Mediterranian dinner down by the seaside.

Today your tour ends after breakfast. You may wish to consider extending your stay in the lovely town of Piran, or hire a car to further explore the wine and spa regions of Slovenia. Alternatively, Venice is just a hop, skip and jump away by ferry and another excellent destination choice.

Ljubljana
One of Europe’s most liveable and ‘green’ cities, Ljubljana is best explored on foot or by bike. Explore museums, boutiques, and markets, or grab a bite to eat at one of the many cafe’s lining the river. Beautiful bridges, buildings, pillars and pyramids make for an interesting stroll around the city streets. Don’t miss the 900-year-old Castle on a hill above the city.

Radovljica
Nestled amidst the picturesque Julian Alps, the quaint village of Radovljica is one of the most beautifully preserved medieval towns in Slovenia. It’s renowned for its rich heritage of beekeeping and chocolate. Explore the charming old town and treat yourself at one of the two Michelin-star restaurants.
Goriška Brda
Picturesque Goriška Brda, commonly referred to as Brda, is the wine capital of Slovenia. With its rolling hills, vineyards and olive tree plantations, it’s known as the Tuscany of Slovenia. The area is dotted with beautiful villages such as Šmartno, a medieval walled town that is the cultural heart of the region.
Lake Bed
Probably the most iconic and photographed of Slovenian sights, Lake Bled is well known for its castle and tiny church-clad island sitting beneath a spectacular mountain backdrop. It’s a whimsical setting evoking stories and legends, and provides an ideal place for outdoor adventure activities. The 1000-year-old castle can be reached by traditional wooden boats known as pletnas, which date back to the 12th century.
Kranjska Gora
Located on the border with Austria and Italy, Kranjska Gora is the most famous mountain resort in Slovenia. The picturesque alpine town has lots of lively restaurants and bars.
Vršič Pass
Crossing the Vršič Pass offers incredible vistas of surrounding mountain peaks and lush valleys. The road was constructed by Russian POWs during WWI. Fifty sharp, hair-pin turns lead you through breathtaking scenery to the highest mountain pass (1611m) in the eastern Julian Alps.
Trenta Valley
Nestled in the heart of the Julian Alps, the Trenta Valley is a natural paradise with breathtaking landscapes and serene ambiance. This pristine valley, often referred to as “Dolina Soče” in Slovenian, is renowned for its stunning alpine scenery and crystal-clear rivers. The centrepiece of the valley is the emerald Soča River, known for its vibrant hue and exceptional clarity. The river winds its way through the valley, creating a striking contrast with the lush greenery of the surrounding forests and meadows.
Bovec
Located in the beautiful Soča Valley, at the edge of the Triglav National Park, this mountain town is surrounded by the peaks of the Julian Alps. Bovec’s charm extends beyond its natural beauty, as the town itself exudes a warm and welcoming ambiance. The central square, adorned with charming alpine architecture, boasts restaurants, cafes, and artisan shops. Here, you can savour local delicacies like the renowned Tolminc cheese, a perfect pairing with the region’s fine wines.
Soča Valley
The Soča Valley is a slice of paradise! The jewel of the Soča Valley is without a doubt the Soča River itself – mesmerising in both colour and clarity. The river gracefully winds its way through the valley, carving a path through lush forests and meadows. The valley is also rich in wildlife, offering encounters with chamois, ibex, and various bird species. Apart from its natural allure, the Soča Valley is steeped in history and culture. It was a significant theatre during WWI, and remnants of this history can be explored in the Kobarid Museum.
Štanjel
Located in the Karst region overlooking the Vipava Valley, Štanjel is one of Slovenia’s most charming and historic hilltop villages. It is renowned for its medieval architecture, stunning views, and unique cultural heritage.
Škocjan Caves
Slovenia’s superabundant underground world puts the country at the top of every cave explorer’s list. This UNESCO World Heritage site is celebrated for its geological significance. Walking through the Škocjan Caves is like stepping into an ancient, mystical realm. You are guided along well-maintained paths that meander through the chambers and over bridges suspended above the rushing river.
Piran
Located on the Adriatic coast, this medieval Venetian port town is a true delight to explore. Stroll narrow lanes of the old town, discover colourful market squares, and medieval walls and savour freshly-caught seafood. The heart of Piran is its beautifully preserved old town, characterised by narrow winding streets, colourful buildings, and a Venetian influence in its architecture.

On the trail
The experience
You will be hiking on paving, cobblestones, rough gravel, and grassy and dirt paths. There are some sections when crossing Vršič Pass that require care to navigate loose rocks and narrow trails with some exposure. When descending to the Soca Valley there is steep terrain with loose rocks, tree roots and leaves. Hiking poles are recommended. Mud can be a problem after rain on some parts of the trail so bring good hiking boots. When e-biking, you will be on gravel roads, asphalt roads and dirt paths. Previous biking experience is essential. For most days of the e-biking section of the trip you will be provided with two options – a shorter itinerary and a longer itinerary, this will allow you to tailor each day to suit your needs.

What's my ride?
The E-BIKE
Our E-bikes are the most current models and are equipped with the new Bosch 4a motor, a battery of 625W, which allows for up to 100km on each charge, dependent on the level of pedal assistance chosen.These are ‘Pedelec’ bikes meaning you still need to pedal and the bike motor assists you upto 25km/h, which is the legal limitation. The bike has MTB geometry with 27.5″ – 29″ wheels (Size XS: 27.5″) and Shimano Deore gears. There is an easy to read handlebar display that gives you all the stats you need including speed/distance. The E-Bike model supplied may vary according to availability on any chosen date but will be a similar quality and range.
