Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of accommodation is included on these walking holidays?
On our hiking tours, we take care of all the details – including booking the best available accommodation each night – so you can simply focus on the walk. After a full day of exploring, you’ll be able to relax in comfort and enjoy a good night’s sleep, ready to take on the next day’s adventure feeling refreshed and recharged.
Is the Cape to Cape Track in Margaret River a good choice for a first-time hiking tour?
Most of the Cape to Cape Track is classified as a challenging Grade 4 multi-day hike, so it demands a reasonable degree of preparation and physical fitness. The walk is extremely varied, from stretches of soft beach walking, wide forest trails, gentle coastal heathland, a few clambering rocky sections to flat ocean-hugging limestone platforms. This is a trail not to be underestimated, nor should it be feared; however, a little bit of healthy trepidation may be useful. Even the long beach walking sections, which some people will read about with apprehension when they begin their research, will bring joy for others. You may find you experience blisters for the first time as feet tend to shift in footwear when walking on a surface that gives way. Make sure you incorporate some beach walking into your training.
Do I need to be an experienced hiker to join a trip?
Our walking holidays suit a range of fitness levels. Check the difficulty rating on each itinerary and carefully read the trail descriptions as we provide lots of information about what to expect. Our team of hiking experts is happy to help you choose the best option for you.
What’s included in a typical self-guided itinerary?
A self-guided walk is ideal if you are hesitant about group travel or want to travel with your own friends and set your own pace. It’s also a great option if you are restricted to travelling at a particular time: you can choose your own departure date (depending on availability of accommodation, of course).
On our self-guided walking tours, we offer safety and local support, with private transfer vehicles, EPIRBs (on some trips) and our own walking app. With all our walks, you’ll enjoy first-hand advice from our destination specialists, seamless luggage transfers, excellent handpicked accommodation, unrivalled resources and the best support and preparation.
Which are the best walks for dramatic wilderness and coastal scenery?
For rugged wilderness and ocean views, we highly recommend walking Victoria’s iconic Great Ocean Walk or one of the many walks in the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. Western Australia’s legendary Cape to Cape Track stretches from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin on pathways that never divert far from the stunning Indian Ocean. On New Zealand’s gorgeous South Island, the world-famous Queen Charlotte Track and Abel Tasman Coastal Track offer spectacular coastal scenery and pristine natural environments.
Are meals included on these walking holidays?
Yes, some meals are included. Check the inclusions in the individual trip itineraries for the most up to date information.
