“Travelling on foot is one of the best ways to slow down and reconnect with nature, while having minimal impact”.

While your walk with RAW is one of the lowest impact experiences of your life, we continue to find ways to improve how we embed our sustainability commitments in our operations.

100% carbon neutral

We are Australia’s first walking company committed to 100% carbon neutral operations. Our head office is powered by renewable energy and we aim to reduce our carbon footprint across all other aspects of your trip. We assess all our operations and offset the remaining emissions at no extra cost to you. Taking action now…

We recognise that climate change is the greatest threat humanity has ever faced and travel is a significant part of the problem. We all need to urgently increase our efforts to reduce our negative impact”, says RAW Travel Founder Dave Reynolds. “Our commitment to being climate positive is mission critical. We must shift urgently, it’s not a ‘nice-to-have’. For RAW Travel, this is an extension of our business philosophy and core values. And our customers expect us to look after the places we visit”.

We have been actively working to reduce our footprint across all operational aspects, including all on-ground components, staff commute, business travel and headoffice emissions.

While the current solutions may not yet be perfect, we still believe that doing something now is critical and not just waiting for future solutions. RAW Travel invests in Gold standard carbon offsets (Read about Gold standard here) which invest in a range of carbon reduction projects including forest preservation and renewable energy. See our Climate action page for more details on actions and targets.

Towards Zero Waste

We have a ‘zero waste to landfill’ commitment and have drastically cut our waste in our Australian operations. Our commitment includes everything from how we run ‘zero-waste’ information nights to the merchandise we buy. Wherever possible we use recycled materials and ensure the recyclability of purchased supplies. We are expanding our commitment to our destinations, working hand in hand with our local suppliers. We take mutual responsibility for reducing waste, increasing recycling and wherever possible supporting the development of a circular economy.

No single-use plastic

We are acutely aware of the impact of single-use plastics. With head office operations based on the shores of Victoria’s Port Phillip Bay, we have the first-hand experience of plastic being a major source of marine pollution. We say ‘no’ to single-use plastics, run local beach cleans to protect our marine environment and advocate within our community for better approaches with plastics through helping sponsor a trial of ‘plastic-free places’ Mount Martha.

Sustainable supplier guidelines

We carefully select our suppliers and local partners based on RAW’s stringent sustainability criteria.

Resource wise

We minimise our footprint by sustainably managing our energy and water use, sourcing renewable energy and environmentally friendly supplies such as stationery and cleaning products.

A tree for every customer

We plant one native tree for every RAW customer. Travelling with us means you contribute to the establishment of biolinks and carbon sequestration. You leave a lasting legacy.
