A new way to experience the UK’s iconic walking trail

In early 2025, the UK unveiled the official Coast to Coast Passport. The pocket-sized booklet was designed to enrich the experience of walkers taking on Alfred Wainwright’s legendary 305km trail from St Bees Head in Cumbria across to Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire. This popular walk passes through the Lakes District, Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors and it now has its own passport to inspire walkers while supporting local businesses along the route. It’s also a fun way to document your journey by collecting unique stamps along the way.

What is the Coast to Coast Passport?

The Coast to Coast Passport is a compact, 140-page A6 booklet designed for walkers to collect distinctive stamps from 77 different stamping agents in 29 official locations along the route. Each stamp is a keepsake of your journey, which promotes interaction with local communities and business. Participating locations include accommodations, cafes, museums and shops – many of which offer special discounts to passport holders.

Benefits for walkers
  • A personal keepsake: Collecting stamps along the trail creates a unique and personal record of your Coast to Coast adventure which is a wonderful lasting reminder of each step of the journey and a journal of your memories.
  • Exclusive offers: Passport holders can enjoy access to a range of special deals, including discounts on meals, drinks, entry fees, walking gear, and more – available only to passport holders.
  • Completion certificate: Celebrate your achievement with a commemorative stamp and an official certificate when you complete the trail – a proud keepsake of your journey.
  • Local connections: The passport encourages interaction with local businesses and fellow walkers, which adds fun, depth and community spirit to your journey.
Supporting trail maintenance

The Coast to Coast Passport is proudly managed by the Richmond Yorkshire Community Interest Company (CIC), a not-for-profit organisation who are dedicated to supporting and celebrating this iconic national walking trail. Through this initiative, the CIC helps maintain, promote and protect the Coast to Coast trail for everyone to enjoy – both now and into the future by securing the sustainability of the route.

When you purchase a passport, you are not just collecting stamps but you are also giving back. A portion of every sale goes directly towards vital upkeep and conservation projects. From repairing footpaths to improving signage and preserving natural beauty, these projects help keep the trail safe, accessible and enjoyable for all who walk it.

How do I get my Passport?

The Coast to Coast Passport is available for purchase online at c2cpassport.com and at selected outlets along the trail. When you book your Coast to Coast trip with RAW Travel, you can save 20% on your Coast to Coast Passport with our special discount code.

A National Trail

The introduction of the passport is timely given the recent designation of the Coast to Coast Path as a National Trail. This status brings increased funding and recognition which includes footpath inspections and repair, improved signage and wayfinding, environmental conservation, improvements to stiles, gate repairs, and even resurfacing of certain sections where erosion is present or where accessibility can be improved.

This comes after many years of campaigning by dedicated locals for one of the UK’s oldest and most popular long distance walks to be recognised as a National Trail with the support from local councils, national parks and the Wainwright Society.

The Coast to Coast Passport offers a fun and meaningful way to connect with one of the UK’s most iconic trails. It adds an extra layer of purpose to your journey, encouraging you to pause, explore and engage with the welcoming communities along the way. It’s more than just a collection of stamps, it is your personal record of your adventure filled with memories and milestones. Its a great addition for hikers to get the most out of their Coast to Coast experience.

RAW Travel is proud to be a supporter of the official Coast to Coast Passport.
