The effort is rewarded at The Gorge, set high above a sheer cliff with expansive alpine vistas. Along the way, keep an eye out for native wildlife including lyrebirds and wallabies. After breakfast, head to the Bogong High Plains for a day of alpine walking across open meadows and gentle ridge lines. Following sections of the Australian Alpine Walking Track, the trail leads to the summit of Mount Nelse, with wide views across the high country. The terrain is less steep than the previous day, but the distance still makes it a solid day on foot. Today brings one of the most memorable walks in Victoria along the Razorback Ridge to Mount Feathertop. After a short drive, begin your hike along this exposed alpine ridgeline, with sweeping views in every direction. Stop at The Cross for lunch, with the option to continue on to the summit for those wanting an added challenge. The terrain is steep in sections and mostly above the tree line, making it a longer, more demanding day, but the views are a constant reward. Return to Bright in the evening to share a final dinner and reflect on the journey together..

Day 6: Bright / Melbourne
After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed final morning in Bright. You may choose to take a gentle walk along the Canyon Walk, following the Ovens River through a small gorge shaped by water and time, with a chance to spot birdlife and traces of the region’s gold mining past. Alternatively, take it slow with a coffee in town and reflect on the week’s journey. Later, return to Melbourne, where the trip comes to a close, carrying with you the rhythm and space of the High Country.
