ON THE TRAIL

WHAT IT'S LIKE UNDERFOOT

The terrain on the Bay of Fires walk is varied and generally graded easy to moderate. Underfoot, you’ll move between firm and soft sandy beaches, formed coastal tracks and sections of uneven granite headlands. Beach walking can be slow in softer sand, while headlands include short rocky scrambles and uneven footing. Inland sections pass through coastal heath, tea tree and dry sclerophyll forest on compact dirt trails with occasional roots. Distances reach up to around 10 km per day on grade 3 tracks, with minimal overall elevation but some short climbs, including a steeper final ascent on the Mount William summit track within Mount William National Park.
