On the trail
What it's like underfoot
Hiking in the Lofoten Islands offers a wonderfully varied experience underfoot. Expect a mix of well-trodden dirt paths, rocky sections, grassy ridgelines, and occasionally boggy ground. Some ascents can be steep and uneven, requiring good footing and a reasonable level of fitness. Trails are often narrow and rugged, with exposed sections that offer incredible views but demand care and attention. Waterproof hiking boots with good ankle support are essential, and trekking poles can be helpful on both climbs and descents. While the terrain can be challenging in parts, the rewards are immense – panoramic vistas, dramatic peaks, and the wild beauty of Norway’s Arctic landscapes.
