DAY 1: ARRIVE IN KYOTO
Arrive in Kyoto, easily reached by bullet train from Tokyo (around 2.5 hours) or Osaka (just 15–30 minutes). Once you arrive, make your way to your accommodation and settle in. The rest of the day is yours to explore at your own pace. Wander through the atmospheric alleys of Gion, visit a traditional teahouse, or enjoy a relaxed dinner at a neighbourhood restaurant. It’s the perfect chance to get your bearings and begin soaking up Kyoto’s timeless charm.
DAY 2: HIKE THE KYOTO ISSHU TRAIL
Spend the day exploring part of the Kyoto Isshu Trail on a self-guided day hike. Starting at Fushimi Inari Shrine and winding through to the Philosopher’s Path, you’ll return to the city after taking in some of the area’s most iconic sights. Kyoto’s Higashiyama district boasts landmarks like Fushimi Inari and Kiyomizudera Temple, offering both history and beauty. Along the trail, you’ll be treated to sweeping vistas from Shogunzuka Viewpoint, where, in 784 AD, Emperor Kanmu famously gazed out and chose the valley below to build historic Japan’s capital. This scenic self-guided hike blends nature, rich culture and breathtaking landscapes.

This tour blends cultural discovery, history and natural beauty, offering a perfect introduction to Kyoto’s rich heritage.
The afternoon is yours to explore further, perhaps visiting Nishiki Market, relaxing in a café or dropping by a museum or temple that catches your interest.
In the evening, immerse yourself in Kyoto’s rich culinary scene on a guided food tour through the city’s hidden gems. Join a small group and follow your local guide through tucked-away laneways, visiting handpicked spots known for their authentic flavours. From cosy izakayas to hidden bars, you’ll sample a range of local favourites – fresh seasonal vegetables, delicate fish, Wagyu beef, artisanal sweets, and expertly brewed sake – offering a true taste of Kyoto’s diverse food culture.
