This trip starts in the charming seaside village of Baiona (Spain) and covers 130km to Santiago De Compostela. This section of the Camino de Santiago takes us along the most beautiful tracks of northern Spain, exploring places where time has stood still. Walking this route will allow you to receive the Compostela – the official certificate of completion for this epic journey.

Our itinerary follows the Galician coastline using the Portuguese Camino da Costa (Coastal Way) to Redondela, and from here the Coastal route converges with the Portuguese Camino Central (Central Way) and continues through to Santiago de Compostela. This route is suited to those who love coastal scenery but also the more intrepid walker as you will find slightly less signage and fellow pilgrims than on the Spanish Camino. It takes in the beautiful towns and villages of Baiona, Pontevedra, Redondela (famous for the best oysters in Galicia) and Caldas De Rei (a spa town with thermal hot springs).

To complement your daily explorations on foot, we offer energising and restorative yoga and meditation sessions. Led by an experienced, certified yoga teacher, our daily practice aims to grow a deeper sense of inner health, providing you with techniques to help you balance your mind and body.  We invite you to escape the chaotic schedules of life and find rejuvenation through these spiritually engaging sessions.

Day 1: Arrival Day into Baiona

Arrive any time into Baiona. Baiona is a charming seaside village with an authentic Spanish presence. Take some time to try the local tapas and meander through the enchanting cobblestone streets. You will be staying at the Parador De Baiona, which has stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean. Relax while enjoying the views and first-class facilities on offer. The evening yoga and meditation session will take place in the grounds of the Parador. (Please check at reception upon check in for the details exact meeting time and place for the first evening.)

Day 2: Baiona to Vigo (23km)

Begin the day with an energising early morning yoga session at the Parador before breakfast, then set off for your day’s walk. Today you will be following the coast closely. You will pass through villages with an almost Mediterranean like ambience and enjoy views that are incredible across the bay of Vigo with the Cies Islands in the background. Vigo is a large industrial city and as you approach Vigo you will pass highways, industrial areas and busy roads. Upon arrival take some time to relax before meeting later in the evening for a deep stretch and meditation session.

Day 3: Vigo to Redondela (15km)

The day starts with an invigorating early morning yoga class before breakfast, then you set off for the day. From the city of Vigo you will continue on the Coastal Way. The Camino to Redondela is a pleasant walk offering beautiful ocean views before you walk inland through a string of hillside villages. Your stop for the night is the town of Redondela, known as the Village of Viaducts, where all the Coastal Camino joins the original Portuguese Camino Way to Santiago de Compostela. In the evening enjoy a deep stretch and meditation session; refresh and reflect, while soaking up the beauty of your surrounds.

Day 4: Redondela to Pontevedra (20km)

Today starts with an early morning rejuvenating yoga session. After breakfast, you will set off for a beautiful day of walking. Pass through the village of Arcade, famous for the best oysters in Galicia, before entering the forest into one of the most beautiful stretches of the Camino. Follow ancient stone paths through lush green woodland and growth. The path then widens among fields and vineyards before you arrive into Pontevedra. Pontevedra has a great energy, which is obvious upon arrival, so spend some time enjoying the local atmosphere. Meet in the evening for a deep stretch to soothe your muscles. You’ll have time to meditate and reflect on your journey so far.

Day 5: Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis (22km)

Wake early for an energising yoga session before breakfast. Today the Camino Portuguese will take you over the O Burgo bridge and through chestnut groves and pine and eucalyptus trees. Emerging from the woods at Lombo da Maceira, a statue of Saint James with his walking stick points the way to Santiago. Pass the pretty village of Tivo with its lovely fountain and public washing area. Continue through rural fields and vineyards to the Roman-influenced town of Caldas de Reis. Soak your feet in the thermal springs upon your arrival into town. Tonight’s accommodation is a real treat, so take some time to absorb the nature, sounds and facilities. A sunset deep stretch and meditation session will relax you into the evening.

Day 6: Caldas de Reis to Padron (19km)

This morning’s yoga class takes place in the beautiful hotel grounds. Set off after breakfast on a beautiful route. The path takes you through pine forests and rural areas through the Bermana and Verga valleys to the town of Padron. When the body of St James was being brought to Compostela by boat, Padron was said to be the first land it reached. A blissful deep stretch and meditation will complete your day.

Day 7: Padron to Santiago de Compostela (26km)

Enjoy a final morning yoga session before breakfast. Today’s walk is through woodland and on increasingly busy roads. You’ll pass through several small villages and the suburbs of Santiago de Compostela. After crossing the Sar River, continue through the streets of the city via Porto Faxeira, the entrance of the Portuguese Way into Santiago de Compostela. Make your way via Rua Franco to Praza das Praterias and the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. In the evening, enjoy a final deep stretch and meditation session, with personal time to reflect on your yoga and Camino experience.

Day 8: Depart Santiago de Compostela

You are free to check out of your hotel any time before 10am. If you would like to explore Santiago further, you can leave your bags at reception.

Map & Guide

Marilyn Spencer, Selby (VIC) – May 2019
The yoga teacher Arantxa was fantastic. The accommodation was beyond expectations and I enjoyed the small group companionship and meeting others along the way.

Michaela Healey, Middle Park (VIC) – May 2019
Aranxta was the absolute highlight. In addition to her excellent yoga teaching, her local knowledge, skills, patience, grace and humour were outstanding. She had to work hard to find suitable yoga venues in each location and excelled. She also found us some great local dining experiences. The terrain and the welcoming locals were also highlights.

Valerie Hughes, Gulfview Heights (SA) – September 2018
Thank you for facilitating my recent renewal of mind, body and spirit. Germán (our local guide) and Arantxa (our kind and gentle yoga instructor) are superb ambassadors for their country, culture and RAW Travel. I encourage anyone considering this trip to give it a go. There is no doubt that fronting up day after day is hard on a mature body, however, the reward of great food and accommodation, and personal growth far outweigh a bit of discomfort. Thanks again!

Vicki Chambers, Bassendean (WA) – September 2018
I wouldn’t change anything from the trip, it was an amazing adventure with a great group. The best thing was having Arantxa and Germán come along. Arantxa is an amazing yoga instructor with very detailed knowledge of Spain’s history; Germán was also very knowledgeable and took us to great eating places. I can’t imagine what it would have been like without these two, we had so many laughs and learnt so much that we wouldn’t have if we did it on our own.

Roslyn Farr, Wheeler Heights (NSW) – September 2018
Lived up to the experience I was expecting. Perfect group size and well organised arrangements prior to the trip. We were gifted with the most perfect weather so a great time of year to run a trip. Yoga sessions were tailored to our walking needs and very beneficial. The final session in a beautiful park in Santiago de Compostela with music was a delight. Thank you, Arantxa!

Dawn Foster, Barwon Heads (VIC) – September 2018
I loved the people, most of the accommodations, the yoga and the scenery.

Michelle Wilson, Brighton (VIC) – June 2018
Walked the Portuguese Coastal Camino in June and it was breathtaking. Beaches, villages, countryside, cities – you experience it all. Loved the homely accommodation and help with the transport of my luggage. This enabled me to enjoy every day and take my time from getting from A to B! Definitely going again to explore another Camino…hopefully sooner than later.
