If you want phenomenal service and a brilliant seating configuration, our Flights Specialist Rosalind highly recommends flying Business Class with Malaysia Air. Here’s why…
What I loved about flying Business Class with Malaysia Airlines
The Route: Kuala Lumpur–Melbourne (7.5 hours)
The hospitality onboard Malaysia Airlines sets it apart from other airlines. The crew are immaculately presented and go above and beyond to assist you with anything you need. Service on business class flights can be somewhat ‘stuffy’ at times. Not on Malaysia Airlines. While the flight itself is not as luxurious as say Oman Air Business Class, the crew made up for it. The had big, friendly smiles and buckets of personality. The whole experience – from check-in to disembarking – matched my expectations of what it should be like to fly business class.
For added comfort, you’ll be given a down cover (for your seat) and a luxurious thick blanket. Tea is offered just before you go to sleep by the ever-attentive crew. Pre-order the nasi goreng for breakfast – you won’t be disappointed.
Kuala Lumpur has two separate international terminals, joined by a super-fast train service. On this occasion, I landed and departed in the same terminal – KLIA – and spent my 2-hour stopover in the Golden Lounge. It’s a huge contemporary space – I didn’t know where to go first! Chefs are ready to cook fresh meals at your whim. All the usual fresh coffee and juices are on offer, plus there is a sushi bar and satay area. I settled for a delicious toasted sandwich and juice, saving myself for the feast that was to come on board!
The dark-wood bar area on your left has views of the runways. In fact, the entire left-hand side of the lounge has views of the runways – premium seating here! Grouped in 4s, the seat configuration makes for an inviting space to work or socialise. There are plenty of power points. The modern bathrooms have shower facilities offering plenty of room.
When flying into and out of Kuala Lumpur you get use of the humongous KLIA Lounge, just upstairs in the main concourse area in the KLIA terminal. It is a beautifully appointed lounge with lots of space for relaxing, eating and working. There are four cuisine stations – Malay, Chinese, Japanese and Western – plus, fresh juices, desserts aplenty and a secluded bar area too. The bathroom area has large showers with enough room to spread out and enjoy your time there.
A 1-2-2&1 configuration welcomes you on board. Malaysia Airlines has a brilliant configuration – it gives people travelling as couples the opportunity to have a window seat together. The seating is a bit tighter than Oman Air, but it still offers the all-important lie-flat bed, where your feet go forward into a little ‘foot nook’. (Once you put the seat into the fully lie-back option though you end up being too close to watch the TV, so just keep it at a lazy recline until you are ready to sleep.) The seat also has a lovely built-in massage function, and plenty of places to store your personal items, including your phone, sunglasses and bottled water.
Once on board, you’ll be offered a welcome glass of champagne or fresh juice and a hot towel. The menu will have you salivating. The luscious and fresh peanut satay (beef, chicken or mixed) is the richest most peanut-loaded satay I have ever tasted. The starters, mains, desserts and cheese platters are equally good. Take advantage of the ‘dine anytime’ light meals.
A wide selection of movies, TV shows and music are on offer. The headphones are high quality and very comfortable.
When you board, a blanket, pillow and amenity kit are all waiting for you in your big navy blue seat. The crew were the friendliest and most personable that I have ever come across. During the flight they were super responsive and attentive, ensuring a restful overnight flight to Melbourne.
On this flight your stopover is Kuala Lumpur.
Flying in conjunction with Oman Air business class special to Europe costs from $4859. Subject to availability; blackout dates apply.
Best for walking the…
Plus it can be combined with Oman Airlines business class flights, making it suitable for:
- Spanish Camino
- Le Puy Camino (France)
- Portuguese Coastal Camino
- Italian Dolomites
- Tour du Mont Blanc
- Swiss Alps
Note: We’d love to help find you a great deal on an international flight, but please note that we only offer this service to clients who have booked one of our walking trips.
Value for Money
I flew Malaysia Airlines in conjunction with Oman Air. While not as luxurious as Oman or Emirates, what it lacks in luxury it more than makes up for in service.
