Great Ocean Walk - Standard

Great Ocean Walk - Standard

RAW Travel is an official Great Ocean walk partner and has been awarded Advanced eco -certification for it's Great Ocean walk tours

Speeding along a windy road with the occasional nervous sideways glance isn't the only way of seeing the world's most spectacular coastline. If you were impressed by the Great Ocean Road, wait until you set foot on the Great Ocean Walk!

Beginning at Apollo Bay, this newly opened walk traverses through the rainforests of the Great Otway National Park to the majestic Twelve Apostles. On the way you'll see kangaroos, koalas and other wildlife, wild deserted beaches, waterfalls plunging gracefully to the Southern Ocean, a historical lighthouse and remains of several shipwrecks.

We have chosen what we consider the best sections of the track to showcase the wonderfully diverse scenery and habitats. We'll show you a walk of real contrasts from the secluded Parker River inlet to wild Station Beach and the magnificent sea cliffs at remote Milanesia. The walk progresses from 'mild' to 'wild' walking as we head further west towards the 12 Apostles.

On our first day we walk with a local Historian who was born at Cape Otway and has an excellent knowledge of the environment and both the human and natural history of this unique area. This sets the scene for the following day's walks which progressively become more spectacular and demanding as we head westwards. Along our route you'll find evidence of shipwrecks from the 1800's and Aboriginal middens dating back thousands of years. The beauty of the Great Ocean walk is that the scenery and habitats change each day so there is a real variety of experiences.

Our standard walk uses very comfortable cabin accommodation in a great location, you'll enjoy excellent food so that your exercise is well rewarded. Evening meals are cooked by our personal chef, Frank, and a full breakfast spread (both cooked and continental) is provided each day. Rest stops include hot and cold beverages, snacks and sports supplements. We realise the importance of plentiful, good quality food when you're hiking and the only complaint we've ever had is that people put weight on because the meals are that good!

RAW's Great Ocean Walk is achievable regardless of your fitness level. There are rest stops where the vehicle meets us and pull out points and so there is no pressure to walk the entire way - you only walk as much as you'd like to. You can walk extra distance should you wish to and you'll only need to carry a day pack. We vary the day's walks according to the wishes of the group and taking into account local weather conditions. We can successfully accommodate those who wish to just have short walk each day and those who want to walk the maximum distance in the time they have. The Great Ocean Walk is an inspiring journey that immerses you in natural beauty, with a warm bed and great food at the end of each day.

We also have departures which cover all 104km of the Great Ocean walk from Apollo Bay to the 12 Apostles over 7 spectacular day's walking. See our end to end Great Ocean walk page.

For every person that travels with us on the Great Ocean walk we will make a donation to the Cape Otway centre for conservation ecology:

Testimonials

The Great Ocean Walk was fantastic. One minute you're walking along the shores of raging beaches, then you're walking through the bush, then you're walking amid lush green hills. It is hard to believe Australia can be this diverse in the one place.

"The Great Ocean Walk blew my mind. The magical scenery would have done that alone, but then add in the seamless organisation, the onsite logistics and the enthralling personalities leading the troops and the whole experience becomes truly memorable and unique"

"The Great Ocean Walk with Raw Travel is a fantastic experience, with excellent organisation, great food, good accommodation and amazing views. Most of the walk is easy to moderate, with pull-out points along the way making the walk achievable for almost anybody with even moderate fitness. It is well worth the effort".

"You haven't experienced the Great Ocean Road until you've taken a walk on the wild side with Dave and the crew at Raw travel. I will always remember this walk as one of the best walks I've done in Australia and look back with a smile remembering the sheer beauty viewed and laughs along the way. Do yourself a favour and take this off the beaten track Great Ocean Road walk - you seriously won't regret it!"
