The Great Ocean Walk has deservedly become one of the Great Walks of Australia since it opened in 2006. The sheer variety of experiences along the walk make it quite unique: abundant wildlife, shipwrecks, tall forests, huge sea cliffs and a spectacularly eroded coastline backed by beautiful countryside. It truly is a walk that offers something for everyone.

Our 4 day walk will show you the very best sections of the Great Ocean Walk and showcases the amazingly diverse scenery it offers, from the Cape Otway forests and lighthouse to rugged seacliffs and remote beaches littered with shipwreck artefacts. Not to mention the prolific wildlife and staggering variety of plants and trees.

Expert Guides
On our first day we walk with a local shipwreck historian who was born at Cape Otway and has an excellent knowledge of the environment and both the human and natural history of this unique area. This sets the scene for the following day's walks which progressively become more spectacular and demanding as we head westwards. Along our route you'll find evidence of shipwrecks from the 1800's and Aboriginal middens dating back thousands of years.

The beauty of the Great Ocean Walk is that the scenery and habitats change each day so there is a real variety of experiences. At times you'll be walking through river estuaries, other times following a path through grass tree forests or a cliff top walk. There are several beach walks including the remote Wreck Beach, where tides and times permit! We call in at the end of the trip to The Twelve Apostles before returning to Melbourne.

Accommodation
Our 4 day walk is based at the historic Cape Otway Lighthstation, you'll stay in comfortable accommodation in the lighthouse precincts. A wonderful place to experience the rich seafaring history of the area. The Lightstation has rooms with shared bathrooms and it's own kitchen and dining / sitting areas. In the daytime there is a onsite cafe and access to the historic exhibitions as well as the light house itself. On this trip you'll have a maximum of 10 guests.

Food
You'll enjoy plentiful food of fresh local ingredients so that your exercise is well rewarded. Evening meals are either cooked onsite or taken out at local eateries. A full breakfast spread (both cooked and continental) is provided each day. Rest stops include hot and cold beverages, fresh fruit, snacks and sports supplements. We don't skimp on the quality of the food that we provide and realise the importance of plentiful, good nutrition when you're hiking and the only complaint we've ever had is that people put weight on because the meals are that good!

Tailored walking
RAW's Great Ocean Walk is achievable by anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. There are rest stops where the vehicle meets us and pull out points so there is no pressure to walk the entire way - you only walk as much as you'd like to. You can walk extra distance should you wish to and you'll only need to carry a day pack. We vary the day's walks according to the wishes of the group and taking into account local weather conditions. Our guides and drivers are not only professional and knowledgeable but also place a high emphasis on guests' enjoyment and having fun during your walk. We want this to be a memorable holiday for you. The Great Ocean Walk is an inspiring journey that immerses you in natural beauty, with a warm bed and great food at the end of each day.

We also have 3 day departures based at Cape Otway and 7 day departures which cover all 104km of the Great Ocean Walk from Apollo Bay to The Twelve Apostles over 7 spectacular day's walking. Also a new 5 day trip that combines walking with other attractions in the region. See our Great Ocean Walk page.

Pamela Sinclair - April 2014
This was a thoroughly enjoyable tour with an excellent tour
leader, delightful accommodation in the historic Cape Otway light station, good food and a gorgeous walk along a spectacular coastline. The walk was well paced and it accommodated the different walking speeds amongst the group members very well. I will recommend the GOW4 day tour to all of my friends without hesitation.
